Top 5 Fun Things To Do Thanksgiving Weekend

Looking for a fun way to spend Thanksgiving weekend, or want to start one or more meaningful Turkey Day traditions? This list of activities is sure to spice up your tryptophan-induced holiday!

1. Macy's Turkey Day Parade~One of America’s favorite holiday tradition, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® returns on Thursday, November 22, 2012 beginning at 9 a.m. on NBC in all time zones. The 86th Anniversary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will take to the streets of New York City with a cornucopia of treats for the whole family. With more than 3.5 million spectators watching the revelry live and more than 50 million viewers tuned in nationwide, the 86th edition of the world famous spectacle promises to be the nation’s largest Thanksgiving Day celebration with over 10,000 participants — including the nation’s best marching bands, performance groups, giant helium balloons, breathtaking floats and the one-and-only Santa Claus. For more information on the parade, click here. Be sure to check it out!

2.  Are you ready for some football!?~For many, football on Thanksgiving is just as important as the turkey and pumpkin pie! This year's holiday features a heaping helping of exciting NFL matchups, starting with the Texans in Detroit, followed by the Redskins in Dallas and concluding with the Patriots at the Jets.

Don't worry you college football fans, I didn't forget you! THE games to feast your eyes upon this holiday weekend include: Oregon at Oregon State , South Carolina at Clemson Auburn at Alabama, and last BUT NOT least Notre Dame at USC.

3. Go on a Fall hike~ Pick an enjoyable destination. All you need to bring are your sneakers and conversation (snacks and water are probably a good idea too)! Or you could join a local Thanksgiving race or walk. It's a great way to put a healthy spin on this momentous food-filled holiday. Find a turkey trot near you!

4. Share thanks~Thanksgiving is a special time to reflect upon and share all the incredible gifts of life we are all so lucky to have... great friends, loving families, food and shelter, health and happiness. Whether at the dinner table, during a side bar conversation or even on Facebook be sure to take time this Thanksgiving to share the things you are thankful for!

5. Give Back~ What better way to give thanks for what you have this Thanksgiving than to share your bounty with others?
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen, drive for meals on wheels or volunteer your time to visit hospital patients
  • Send a care package to a soldier overseas
  • Put together a Thanksgiving basket or hot turkey dinner for families less fortunate
  • Raise money and food donations for your local food bank

I wish you a happy, healthy and restful Thanksgiving!

Much Love-

Christine
